What I have learned from other groups presentations was that a great deal has changed over time with technology. For starters, movies have come a long way since even 15 years ago. The movie group showed how 3D, the color and contrast has changed in movies over time. Movies used to be in just black and white with minimal animation. Recently, you can almost animate anything and make anything come to life. Now a days, people stand in front of a green screen and can essentially create anything. You can have people stand in front of a green screen and make it look like they are stranded in the middle of the ocean, or walking in the mountains. It is seriously amazing how far we have come with technology.
Another thing that the presentations have taught me was about video games. I have never really gotten into video games but their presentation taught me a lot. It showed me how new and improved video game systems cannot accept old videos games. This means it wants people to stay updated with the new games and systems. The animation in video games has come a long way as well. Old video games used to be 1D with not many color or effects. Now, the player is in charge of the video game. They can virtually do anything and not only that, but the effects are updated. A player can essentially pick and choose how a video game goes (ex- Grand theft auto) instead of how the past was, with just playing the basic game. This allows more exciting things to happen during the game, and always has a different end result. By having a different end result, it makes the player want to continue playing instead of going to play a different game.

Podcasting
1. How does podcasting fit into the
organizational communication in business, non-profit, and academic contexts?
It is
essentially streamlined, allowing the audience you are trying to connect with
to see a catalog of your content, which makes it a universal medium. It can
allow anyone to start a podcast, and create content.
2. Why does the speaker say that podcasting
extends message?
Podcasts
can help educate many on information they do not know. It can teach people
information they want and keep them wanting more. You want an audience that
wants to hear and listen to what your saying everyday, and that will come back
for more. You can extend the message beyond conversation by reaching a larger
audience, which will get you more feedback.
3. How does
podcasting encourage participation culture according to the speaker?
It allows
many different people to participate and listen to your content. It allows
people to give you feedback, which ultimately can improve your podcast. Their
advice can help you engage with larger audiences and get more peoples attention.
4. What are the three
critical elements of development for a successfully media when the speaker
talks about email, blogging, and online ad? Why does podcasting have the three
elements?
The three
critical elements are important because you have to keep your content
interesting and keeping the audience wanting more information. Podcasting has
the elements because they are essential to obtaining and audience and keeping
that audience interesting. If your podcast is always entertaining people will
never leave.
5. How does the
concept of digital media convergence get applied in podcasting when the speaker
discusses the compounding media?
Digital
media gets applied through the availability of links that take you to other
forms of media such as social media. By being able to access different sites,
it keeps the audience interesting and constantly clicking from page to page.
You can also expand your content and inform your audience to check out further
information by clicking other links provided. You can also get a larger
audience by having friends/followers and people spreading your content.

Media Analysis #2
New Media Has Taken Control

Our lives revolve around the media. Everything
we do involves social media, including all the information we
obtain. Times are gone when we received information from a formal news
source. It's obvious that social media has taken control, but how?
Since the growth of new media, it seems we
cannot have journalism without it. It is obvious new media
has changed the field of journalism forever. One of journalisms
biggest competitors, Twitter, are both fighting to take the stand. "Over 52%
of Twitter users report that they receive their news on the popular social
media network." (1). Because Twitter is
so convenient and assessable, we can create a news story and upload a
picture within minutes. It has become one of the leading sources of quick, easy information.
But Twitter is not the only competitor. Journalism has changed in the
sense where a writer cannot just post a story by itself and receive a lot of credit. Stories have become
much stronger with videos, pictures and links attached to it. Being that
you can only add a picture in traditional news articles, social media
takes the next step in interacting and connecting with the audience.
Because new media is in the palm of our hands, one can
pick and choose what they want, when they want it. Journalism has changed in the
sense that the news on TV is only on at specific times during the day. This causes us
to arrange our schedule to fit in the news. With new media, we do not have to switch our schedule. It is immediate
information at the palm of our hands. "One of the things that attracted me personally to Twitter
was the immediate access to other sources of information," says author Tommy Landry. (2).
Social media has changed journalism in the sense that there are more easy ways to report stories. In some cases, this is good. It's good because we have people who can report a story as it happens, instead of waiting for it on the news. For journalists, this is bad. It's bad because today, anyone can be a journalist, and it almost requires no training.
New media will continue to expand to more convenient ways in the future. It will continue to change every day. In the end, no one knows what the future will hold, so we will just have to sit back, and wait.

It’s the Audience, Stupid!
What is the new approach to
storytelling and how is it being used to broaden audiences?
The new approach is expanding
storytelling through digital media. The article shows that Americans and
Europeans want more international news so they can broaden their information
and learn to fully understand all of the issues on the news. Many news
reporters try to only include information that they think the people would want
to hear. But now, they leave in all the information so people can read the
whole story.
How is digital media being
used to engage audiences?
Audiences can take surveys about
issues and stories that they liked and disliked. News engages the audience by
creating a debate over certain topics. By seeing if people react to the
stories, is the deciding factor if the news covered the correct story.
Give three specific
examples of how you can incorporate storytelling into an article you write?
One way I can incorporate story
telling is if I include my own personal experience on the topic. If I am
writing a story or article on Rider, I can write my own personal experience
with Rider to connect with the audience more. Another thing I can do is
incorporate Rider student’s that go there now. I can interview other students
and by hearing their positive experiences at Rider. I can also incorporate
storytelling by making it a debate. People can say their positive and negative
experiences at Rider, which cause the reader to take a side. This way if there
is a story and a plot, it is easier to picture.
All the Aggregation That’s
Fit to Aggregate
What does aggregation mean?
Aggregation can be summarized as the
sharing of “articles of interest” from one news source to another. In some
cases, it can be word-for-word recitation of an article, which according to
Bill Keller, “In Somalia this would be called piracy. In the mediasphere, it is
a respected business model.”
Why does the author
describe Arianna Huffington as “the queen of aggregation?” Go to the
Huffington Post and provide an example.
The author describes Arianna
Huffington as “the queen of aggregation” through the Huffington Post, a website
she founded and later sold to AOL for $315 million. The reason the “royal
title” is imposed on Huffington is due to the fact there is little, if any,
original material written exclusively for the Huffington. Many of the articles
are based off of previous articles by other news sites and blogs.
Is aggregation a threat to
professional journalism – why or why not?
I think aggregation is a threat
because people never get credit for their work. If you write and article and
someone else basically rewrites the same article, you wont get the main credit
for it. There are too many names and too many people who share the article and
do not refer to the original author. This also could be useful if you want your
article to be shared to a broader audience.
Photojournalism in the Age
of New Media
A
professional journalist receives a photo captured by a citizen journalist….
What are the positives?
-Journalists can take photos before
a news team arrives.
- They can get detailed and
exclusive information on a story.
-They have more access to other
places
Why does the professional
journalist need to be careful?
-They have to be careful to cite everything and avoid copyright.
-Make sure all details are correct
and not exaggerated.
-Take professional photos and always
use your own work.
Why might the content of
the photo be called into question?
-Photoshop or Dreamweaver
How does citizen
photojournalist impact the job of the professional photojournalist?
-They can release stories faster.
-They do not need any special training in taking pictures, unlike regular journalists who need a degree.
-They do not need any special training in taking pictures, unlike regular journalists who need a degree.

Youtube Questions
1. How
does the interaction online become the key for Youtube video production
community? Please use the media convergence concept to explain it.
- Youtube has become a leader in media convergence
because now there is a place where users can upload whatever videos they want.
This allows anyone to comment or share the video, which creates a great deal of
interaction. People can share youtube videos to other types of media channels
such as facebook, twitter, and even on blogs such as tumbler.
2. The
article mentioned that the teens are mainly passively consumers of Youtube
being on the periphery. But seven out of 10 most subscribed partners are teens
and young adults. How do you explain this use of Youtube in youth?
- Many teens and young adults are more tech savy
than older people. Since we grew up with the internet, we understand it more
easily compared to older adults. Teens might be the most passive consumers of
Youtube. They are also the main group that will be invested in the future. By
being a subscriber, you can pick and choose what you want to see. This gives
loyalty to certain channels.
3. How
does Youtube use different techniques to create an online community that is
different from other websites?
- By allowing people to subscribe to eachothers channels,
it creates a community for people to follow one another. This also gives people
the opportunity to comment and talk to one another. This also creates a
participatory culture.
4. What
is the next step for Youtube development? Please use the concept of
participatory culture and media development theory we discussed to explain your
answer.
-The
next step might be to let users interact differently. Maybe they can start a
group chat on youtube so people can discuss videos and channels. It would also
be cool if they created an app on the iphone that you can listen to a
video/music without having the app open or your phone unlocked. I am almost
positive everyone would appreciate that.

Social Media Use is Soaring—Tine to Reconsider Your 2013 Strategy
Social Media Use is Soaring—Tine to
Reconsider Your 2013 Strategy
What did you learn about the
growing trends in the use of social media?
Some growing trends are that many
businesses use social media to promote themselves. Also, social media is virtually
everywhere because there are apps you can download on your phone. So you are
always updated with the latest news and information.
What takeaways do you see from
the data?
Social media should be the heart of
advertising. We have created ways to connect people on certain topics like
using hash-tags. But we need to create new ways for people to communicate and
connect with one another. By doing this people can extend marketing and
advertising in the future.
