What I have learned from other groups presentations was that a great deal has changed over time with technology. For starters, movies have come a long way since even 15 years ago. The movie group showed how 3D, the color and contrast has changed in movies over time. Movies used to be in just black and white with minimal animation. Recently, you can almost animate anything and make anything come to life. Now a days, people stand in front of a green screen and can essentially create anything. You can have people stand in front of a green screen and make it look like they are stranded in the middle of the ocean, or walking in the mountains. It is seriously amazing how far we have come with technology.
Another thing that the presentations have taught me was about video games. I have never really gotten into video games but their presentation taught me a lot. It showed me how new and improved video game systems cannot accept old videos games. This means it wants people to stay updated with the new games and systems. The animation in video games has come a long way as well. Old video games used to be 1D with not many color or effects. Now, the player is in charge of the video game. They can virtually do anything and not only that, but the effects are updated. A player can essentially pick and choose how a video game goes (ex- Grand theft auto) instead of how the past was, with just playing the basic game. This allows more exciting things to happen during the game, and always has a different end result. By having a different end result, it makes the player want to continue playing instead of going to play a different game.

Podcasting
1. How does podcasting fit into the
organizational communication in business, non-profit, and academic contexts?
It is
essentially streamlined, allowing the audience you are trying to connect with
to see a catalog of your content, which makes it a universal medium. It can
allow anyone to start a podcast, and create content.
2. Why does the speaker say that podcasting
extends message?
Podcasts
can help educate many on information they do not know. It can teach people
information they want and keep them wanting more. You want an audience that
wants to hear and listen to what your saying everyday, and that will come back
for more. You can extend the message beyond conversation by reaching a larger
audience, which will get you more feedback.
3. How does
podcasting encourage participation culture according to the speaker?
It allows
many different people to participate and listen to your content. It allows
people to give you feedback, which ultimately can improve your podcast. Their
advice can help you engage with larger audiences and get more peoples attention.
4. What are the three
critical elements of development for a successfully media when the speaker
talks about email, blogging, and online ad? Why does podcasting have the three
elements?
The three
critical elements are important because you have to keep your content
interesting and keeping the audience wanting more information. Podcasting has
the elements because they are essential to obtaining and audience and keeping
that audience interesting. If your podcast is always entertaining people will
never leave.
5. How does the
concept of digital media convergence get applied in podcasting when the speaker
discusses the compounding media?
Digital
media gets applied through the availability of links that take you to other
forms of media such as social media. By being able to access different sites,
it keeps the audience interesting and constantly clicking from page to page.
You can also expand your content and inform your audience to check out further
information by clicking other links provided. You can also get a larger
audience by having friends/followers and people spreading your content.

Media Analysis #2
New Media Has Taken Control

Our lives revolve around the media. Everything
we do involves social media, including all the information we
obtain. Times are gone when we received information from a formal news
source. It's obvious that social media has taken control, but how?
Since the growth of new media, it seems we
cannot have journalism without it. It is obvious new media
has changed the field of journalism forever. One of journalisms
biggest competitors, Twitter, are both fighting to take the stand. "Over 52%
of Twitter users report that they receive their news on the popular social
media network." (1). Because Twitter is
so convenient and assessable, we can create a news story and upload a
picture within minutes. It has become one of the leading sources of quick, easy information.
But Twitter is not the only competitor. Journalism has changed in the
sense where a writer cannot just post a story by itself and receive a lot of credit. Stories have become
much stronger with videos, pictures and links attached to it. Being that
you can only add a picture in traditional news articles, social media
takes the next step in interacting and connecting with the audience.
Because new media is in the palm of our hands, one can
pick and choose what they want, when they want it. Journalism has changed in the
sense that the news on TV is only on at specific times during the day. This causes us
to arrange our schedule to fit in the news. With new media, we do not have to switch our schedule. It is immediate
information at the palm of our hands. "One of the things that attracted me personally to Twitter
was the immediate access to other sources of information," says author Tommy Landry. (2).
Social media has changed journalism in the sense that there are more easy ways to report stories. In some cases, this is good. It's good because we have people who can report a story as it happens, instead of waiting for it on the news. For journalists, this is bad. It's bad because today, anyone can be a journalist, and it almost requires no training.
New media will continue to expand to more convenient ways in the future. It will continue to change every day. In the end, no one knows what the future will hold, so we will just have to sit back, and wait.
